Emergence

December 2021

Model: fellow CFA first-year

Portrayal of emergence: “the process of coming into view or becoming exposed after being concealed.” The pearls represent something new growing and emerging, as they come into being by irritation of the inside; the inside turmoil makes them into what they are. The ribcage is representative of being stripped of your skin, of feeling raw, open, and exposed. Only when we are exposed and vulnerable to external forces can we fully develop and come into being as our true selves.

Self Portrait

February 2022

10 in x 7 in

A portrayal of how I see myself in the form of a functional teapot. I view myself as a sharp force (the spikes on the teapot): intense, fervent, and sometimes brash. However, I have a more steady and conscious side that holds that back (the chain-rings around the spikes). I wanted to emphasize the strained push-and-pull feeling of reaching out and being restrained.

Eye of the Beholder

Breaking down body dysmorphia. We are trained to use small bodily imperfections as markers for general beauty. But this could not be farther from the truth; beauty is a holistic, inclusive measurement that can include what is immediately visible. Beauty isn't found by simply creating and combining the most perfect version of each facial feature.
